Final exams are over and school is out, so I am back at Turkey Branch.  We have had a mini-drought for nearly three weeks, but we had some rain since Thursday.

The invasives are back!  The stream bank is covered with Japanese Stilt Grass (Microstegium vimineum).

I was happy to see that Inland Sea Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium) are also back from last year:

The State and County's efforts to combat erosion in Turkey Branch is rapidly failing.  The rip-raps that were constructed a few years ago have been breached by erosion.

Further study must been done to determine the causes of the rapid erosion of Turkey Branch and better methods to prevent erosion need to be developed.

Some native plants have returned from last year including this Spotted Joe-pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum).

I ended the day by picking up some trash.
