I'm Baaaack!!!
I finished my first year of college and I am back to check out my neighborhood park.
The park looks amazingly clean, but I have some work to do with the invasive plants - the patch of Mile-a-Minute vines is a good place to start.
The water is pretty stagnant in a number of areas,
but the stream is beautiful and I am ready to get to work!

It is very cold today, winter is on its way! I concentrated on pulling several patches of Wine Berries.
The Park was clean after last week's clean-up.

Hurricane Sandy!!!
I was unable
to participate in this Saturday’s Community Cleanup. However, my neighbors did a great job!
Hurricane
Sandy gave us her best shot. I was
surprised at how little damage was done to the park. There were a couple of trees brought down by
the storm and a lot of leaves.
Here is a video of the "rapids" of Turkey Branch.

Late Summer Flowers
Here are some shots of beautiful native flowers – many of which are threatened or
endangered species in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Aromatic Aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium )
Few-Leaf Sunflower (Helianthus occidentalis)
Note: This plant has a Conservation Status of S1 for Maryland, which means that it is "critically imperiled".
Blue Wild Indigo (Baptisia australis)
Note: This plant has a Conservation Status of S2 for Maryland, which means that it is "imperiled".
Inland Sea Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium)
Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)

We have had a couple of heavy thunderstorm but there has been little damage to the park.
I spent some time removing invasive Wine Berry plants.
The stream was fairly clean but there was a lot of trash along the trail.
