Monday January 16, 2012

Today is the Community Cleanup.  It is around 33 degrees but it is not windy.   There was a very good turnout for this event and the Park was much cleaner than in previous cleanups.

I found an old TV

And a tire made by General Tire - who hasn't made a tire since 1987!

The problem of erosion is very evident is this area of Turkey Branch.

I found a tire which was surrounded by a tree!

In spite of all of the trash, nature showed off some of her beauty.

Saturday January 7, 2012

Today is January 7, so I must first say Поздравляю с Рождеством!
and  З Різдвом Христовим! to my blog readers   It was an unusually warm day for January with a temperature of 63 degrees.

I spent a part of the afternoon removing Multiflora Rose bushes and Wineberry stalks.

I also found my first Lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria) in Matthew Henson State Park.

The winter storms have re-arranged the topography of the stream

and the warm weather was created a large amount of algae.

There was also a lot of trash including a not-so-festive plastic candy cane!
