Saturday October 30, 2010

Today was another nice autumn day. I inspected several areas that I weeded earlier and removed some Japanese Stilt Grass that grew back. Hopefully, there will be less of this weed next spring because I pulled thousands of these grasses before they went to seed.

I spent the rest of my time picking up junk, including some pants and a piece of down spout!

Saturday October 23, 2010

Today was a beautiful autumn day. I went back to some areas, that I weeded previously, and removed some of the Wine Berries that grew back.

I also removed more Japanese Stilt Grass.

I also noticed a number of native plants that were going to seed.

I spent about an hour walking the stream bed picking up litter. Today, I found the largest piece of junk ever - a huge steel tank!

I couldn't budge the tank so I left it - but I did collect two bags.

Saturday October 16, 2010

This was Homecoming weekend so I didn’t have much time and our team lost :(!

I found a patch of native grasses and wildflowers in an area that I cleared months ago.

I went downstream and picked up about 50 pounds of trash. I found the remains of an old mo-ped, but it was too heavy to haul to the street.

Once again, I found a shopping cart! Once again, it was from K Mart, which is nearly 1 1/2 mile away!

I found some native grasses trying to grow in the Stilt Grass:

It appears there was a party in the park during the past week, and it was not very up-scale! I collected an entire bag Milwaukee's Best cans.

We had two major down-pours this week. I went to the stream to continue removing Japanese Stilt Grass.

After:

I also noticed that the storms cut a channel which by-passed the vane which was built to slow the stream’s flow:

The Aromatic Asters (Aster oblongifolius)are in bloom:

I finished the day by collecting two bags full of cans, bottles, and plastic bags and another shopping cart!
