Saturday September 10, 2011

We have experienced a week of very heavy rain.  I went to Turkey Branch to check on the stream's condition.  Some of the rip-raps, which were built to slow the speed of the stream, have been breached.

The force of the storm can be seen where the vegetation has been pushed down.

The storms washed a large amount of trash from up-stream.

I spent part of the afternoon cleaning this area.

Monday September 5, 2011

I spent an entire hour today clearing Mile-a-Minute vines.  It is amazing how quickly these invasive species grow.

The hurricanes, along with the huge amount of rain that we have had from other storms this month, have washed much of the algae out of the stream.

I am pleased to see that the Darter population of Turkey Branch is alive and well after the storm and that a water bug is going for a swim!   It is also nice to see  some native flowers are in bloom.
