Today is the big day!

The Friends of Rock Creek's Environment (FORCE) held its annual "Day of Service" at Turkey Branch.  Joining the FORCE regulars this year - the Honorable Martin J. O'Malley, Governor of the great State of Maryland helped out!

It was a great honor to meet the Governor and his words about Citzenship, Community, and Service provided encouragement for the future of my small restoration project.

There are more picture of the cleanup, and of your's truly at the Governor's website.

At first, I thought that this section of Matthew Henson State Park was cleaner than the section that I maintain and I was wrong!  I pulled 3 tires out of the woods (out of a grand total of 15 for the group), what was left of an old metal shed, old VHS video tapes, a cookie tin, and even a cow skull!  It is amazing what people throw away in the woods.

The 80 volunteers filled 123 bags of trash during this cleanup.

The Park looked much cleaner afterwards!
